Upcoming Features

Postby Demenzun Media » Fri Dec 09, 2016 6:02 am

December 2016

There are literally more than 5000 future features planned for TerreSculptor.
As these features are implemented new builds will be released.
Many of these features will be free updates to existing licensed users.

New features that have been in the pipeline for a few years and are under current development are:
- New Erosion Transform tools.
- Multithreading the current Erosion Transform tools.
- A new Mask Lift Transform tool.
- A new Mask Multiplier Transform tool.
- A new Complex Noisemap Generator tool.
- A new Composite Extractor tool.
- A new ARGB Splatmap Extractor tool.

TerreSculptor is getting a facelift and a dark color theme.
This will be a free update coming soon, possibly January 2017, for all users of the Standard and Professional Editions.
Here are some screenshots:

These are some great news.
I'm really looking forward to the multi-threaded erosion. Right now this is the biggest workflow slowdown, espacially with hydraulic erosion.
New erosion tools and and complex noisemap generator sounds promising as well.

The current Hydraulic Erosion is actually a sediment process.
It isn't a fluvial or river process which is why it doesn't carve rivers into the terrain.
So it is very CPU intensive.
It will be getting multithreaded but it will still be a slow process.

The new erosion devices I am working on are actual fluvial river processes.
And they should execute much faster. I will be multithreading them as much as I can.

Here is a preview of the results of the new Rain Erosion Device.
This device will be available in the next build release, which is free.
This device is only available in the Professional Edition, not the Standard Edition.
The next build release should be sometime in the next 4-8 weeks, I'll keep you posted.

All of these screenshots are using only one set of erosion settings.
So the total amount of erosion variation is more than what you see here.

Each terrain heightmap is 1024x1024.
You may recognize some of these heightmaps as presets for the noisemap generators.

The erosion code is extremely optimized.
The time to execute on each of these heightmaps is only approximately 4 seconds (on an Intel i7-2600K 4-core 8-thread CPU).
The erosion time goes up close to linearly for the heightmap size, so a 2048x2048 heightmap will be about 4 times longer.
I may try to get it even faster than this.

There is a new blog post on the main website regarding the upcoming dark user interface changes and the new Rain Erosion transform tool.

WOW!. Looking impressive already; can't imagine what's installed for the Pro users. That's my target and will get the Pro version soon.

Thanks for the feedback.

Attached is a screenshot of the main window in the new dark user interface.
Approximately 97% of the application has been converted to the dark interface so far.
The dark interface will only be available in the Professional Edition, the free Standard Edition will be using the standard Windows 7 interface.

I should have the initial preview release of the changes within about a week.
I will be posting a Developer Preview for download on the website's Support page, so any registered users will be able to use it before the official release.
This preview will include the new interface, new rain erosion, and a large number of fixes.
The preview will then become the next official release later in January in the store after it goes through some additional testing.

Thanks for the update.
The new rain erosion is great and really fast. Made me remember the mountains at the dead sea.
